When you are planning on moving there are a lot of things on your mind. The last thing you want to worry about is breaking your valuables or all your dishes when you hit a bump in the road. Many choose to pack their belongings in paper and some with bubble wrap. When you pack with paper or bubble wrap you are making sure that your items have that while moving your items are secure. Here are some reasons why you might choose one or the other. Paper wrapping your items can be a cheap inexpensive way of packing. You can get old newspapers from family and friends or go to your local moving store. Packing paper will protect your items from breaking if the bang together, but is not 100. If you are planning on moving a lot of valuables or breakables you might want to consider bubble wrap. Bubble wrap gives your breakables a little bit more cushion than paper does. If you hit a bump in the road when your items cling together the bubble wrap between them can stop a hard impact from breaking them a little better than paper. Bubble wrap is not 100 either.

A year ago, my family moved from our 2-bedroom apartment in the city to a 3-bedroom apartment near the university. My husband had just been accepted to a graduate program, and because I was pregnant at the time with our second child, we really needed a bigger place.

As the impending move date arrived we started making lists of all of the things we needed to get done. At the top of the list, was to find moving boxes.

Although our move wasn’t far, we decided to rent a small rental truck. For a fee, we could get boxes from the rental company. The boxes were quite sturdy, and a good size for moving, however we did not really feel that a cardboard box was something worth spending money on, so we started looking around for other options.

We asked friends, neighbors and people at work for good places to get moving boxes. The advice we received was to check with managers of the local supermarkets. Another good source of boxes was the local university my husband was attending. Research departments order lab supplies daily, and there were always a good assortment of varying sizes of boxes to choose from.

Choosing a good moving service can be tricky for the first time mover, and even for experienced movers. For those of us who do not have three sons who are also professional football players, we may need a little extra help with that grand piano,www.amadeuspianos.com/pianos.htm.

The simplest things to look for in a good moving service is word of mouth. If movers have a good buzz via your friend, or your relative, chances are it’s going to be a good experience for you. That’s not to say that you shouldn’t still do your homework online first, and check with the BBB, but a good reputation is priceless and something that you can’t fake online.

Also do not be afraid to trust your gut, if you get the deep down feeling that “these guys don’t seem quite right” it’s probably best to just go with your instincts and play it safe. Sometimes your own natural ability to read people and a company can tell you more than any review site.

Lastly, shop around as much as you can. In other words, compare prices, and really think about which of these companies are going to fit your needs the best.

Happy moving!

People are on the move. We live in a time when people make at least several moves during their lifetime. Most of these people require a reliable moving service to handle their move. After all, moving is a major happening in anyones life. It does not matter if the move is across town or across the country. You will certainly want to take your adt security services along too. Moving causes lots of stress. One way to make the move smooth and stress free is by choosing the best moving service for you.
First decide on your moving budget. How much can you afford? You don’t want to get in over your head and hire an expensive moving service. Call around for a few quotes before making your decision on which company to consider hiring. Once you’ve narrowed down the list to the final one or two, check their background. Determine if the moving company is licensed? Check their rating at the Better Business Bureau. Ask the company for references. Suppose you are on a limited budget and can’t pay all at once. Ask if they take partial payments. Take all the information here into consideration before making your final decision.

It seems to be getting tougher these days to find friends and family who are willing to help you move (especially with apartment buildings getting taller and taller as architects go crazy with design and land space becomes more scarce), so instead of trying to rally a team to help you with the physical movement of your belongings you might consider getting some help at the front and back end only (where no heavy lifting is required). Yep, contract out the physical movement of boxes and furniture (the “heavy lifting” so to speak), but surround yourself with help from friends and family when it comes to the packing and unpacking phases; and the best way to get them to buy in to wanting to help you is through the promise of fun. How to best accomplish that? By a party, of course. Now we don’t mean a full-blown selection of five-star appetizers, imported wine selections, and complex play lists; we mean a casual gathering of like-minded people who can help you wrap up your dishes in newspaper or pack your linens in boxes, all with the promise of food and libation (okay, and maybe a few play lists as well if your electronics are still unpacked) either during the packing (gotta love Chinese delivery) or afterward in a backyard BBQ. Pre-moving and post-moving parties don’t have to be demanding they can be fun, stress free, and a great way to connect in a light hearted and no pressure environment; just make sure you keep that in mind and don’t even think about pressuring anyone to work harder or do more than they’re willing to put forth, or you’ll definitely be on your own when it comes to any future moves — and that move may be more demanding than the last one!

A lot of times when people envision an interstate move the only thing they see are the hassles of coordinating the move you know, the packing, the cleaning, and all the other blissful routines associated with the change in lifestyle. But what about the notion that the move may open an opportunity to take a few days of vacation en route to your new destination? You bet this is the perfect time to take a side detour or two as you drive across the country, especially if you are having your personal belongings professionally moved by a moving and storage company since you are less encumbered than probably any other time in the recent past. If you know you’ll want to take a few extra days to stop by that resort town or other exciting destination, all you need to do is let your moving company know so they can coordinate the time logistically when it comes to their own route planning. Moves are typically stressful and a lot of times they are as a result of changed jobs or other increased responsibilities. What better way to start that new chapter in your life than with a mini-vacation en route to assure that you arrive rested and fully capable to handle the new challenges that will be in your lap sooner than you know it.

One of the ways to make moving less stressful is to hire a moving company. And since Allied Van Lines have been in the business for over 75 years, who better to trust with your move? For homeowners, Allied offers three different types of assistance. By purchasing a full service package, you never have to pack a single box. However, if that makes you uncomfortable, there are two other packages to choose from: fragile packing and do it yourself packing. The last two packages offer less involvement from Allied movers. In-fact, that last option only offers packing supplies. But no matter which option you chose, you’re given a little added help.Alongside great packages, Allied has stress-free services. Not only do they offer loading and unloading assistance, but safe transportation, too. If needed, the company will even reassemble all of your furnishings. If you’re biggest concern is something happening to your valuables, put your fears aside. The movers offer two types of coverage plans: Basic Liability Protection and the Extra Care Protection. The ECP does offer better coverage, but the basic plan is free. It depends on how many valuables you own as to which plan will suit you best. Visit the website to help with your final choice.Allied covers residential, local and long distance moving. No matter the level of assistance you need, or the distance you travel, Allied can take load off your back.

While the idea of a new house is exciting, the moving process is well. . . that last hurdle before a new start. If you’re not renting a moving company to pack for you, U-Haul will make your move so much easier. With the ability to rent a truck or trailer, U-Haul has everything the self mover could need. For anyone who can attach trailers, the company offers a variety of attachments for every need. Cargo trailers are perfect for self movers, and U-Haul offers five different sizes, too. If you only have a few boxes which won’t fit in your trunk, the sport trailer is your best choice. The attachment is 6′ by 3’9″ and takes no more than 965 pounds. However, this is the company’s tiniest trailer. For bigger moves, the 6′ by 12′ add-on is perfect. The attachment takes 2,480 pounds. U-Haul does have three other sizes, as well as car and utility trailers. If you’d prefer to drive a U-Haul truck, they have six vehicles to choose from. The company makes it easy for their customers to choose the perfect truck. Alongside the vehicle’s measurements, U-Haul adds how many bedrooms the truck can comfortably fit. The company suggests the 10′ truck for smaller moves: such as one apartment to another. However, for an average home move (2-3 bedrooms), the 17′ vehicle is highly recommended. In regards to weight difference, the 17′ truck can hold 5,930 pounds whereas the 10′ vehicle can only take 2,810 pounds. But there are plenty of other sizes to choose from, including pickups, 14′, 24′, 26′, and cargo vehicles. To learn more about U-Haul and renting their equipment, visit the company’s website.

Moving is a hectic process. Amidst contracts and switching bills, it’s easy to forget the simple things. In order to make the process less hectic, we’ve combined a list of moving tips. So stop pulling out your hair, grab a hot coffee or tea, and read on.Don’t leave it until last minuteWhile this tip is a little obvious, it’s easy to say “oh, I’ll start packing tomorrow.” Next thing you know, it is moving day and nothing is done. If you’re facing a jam packed schedule, pack one box a day leading up to the move. It may not make a large dent, but it will leave less for moving day.Find a system that works for youPutting dishes in with the bed sheets may work for some, but gets confusing for others. What if you forget what box the cookware is in? And as far as the paperwork goes, it’s hard to keep track of what needs to get done. With so much happening during a move, the most important thing is to develop a system. For example, you could pack items by function (cooking, sleeping, bathing, etc). And how about assigning paperwork to certain days (Tuesday is electric, Wednesday is water)? By deciding on a direction before you move, your tasks will fall into place like a check list- check- and done!Taking care of pets and kidsYou love your children and pets, but on moving day, it can be hard to pack and keep up with them. See if a friend will watch your pet for the day, or check him or her into doggie care. As far as children go, see if grandma and grandpa would be willing to babysit. If not, maybe you could keep them occupied with a coloring book and crayons.
